After months of fruitless faffing about trying to raise money to pay for the Dimetrodon's engine rebuild, we have finally secured a source of funding. The repair is fully paid for, and it's ready to pick up. We'll need to get a new temporary plate from it, but I understand the Wisconsin DMV is pretty flexible about extending them in special circumstances like ours.

We've spent the last day our two giving our Airbnb in Omaha a thorough cleaning. We've left some sour impressions on our last couple of Airbnb hosts cause we haven't had the spoons to clean up properly and us and the dogs can be a bit messy. They left us some pretty bad reviews and hit us with some massive chargebacks. We appealed them to Airbnb, and of course they sided with the hosts, but at least all that's done now. And we've left our current unit pristine enough that our latest hosts should not have anything to complain about, and hopefully will leave us a good review to offset some of the recent bad ones.

Today, we drove over from Omaha to Cedar Rapids. We're staying in a Motel 6 tonight. This place feels a little shady—the hallway smells so strongly of weed, I'm surprised walking down it didn't get me high—but we only need it for one night. The dogs have been running me ragged for the last couple hours, asking for our practically every 5 minutes and making enough noise I'm worried the neighbors will complain. They've finally settled down now though. I haven't gotten great sleep the last couple nights, but I'm getting to bed nice and early and definitely going to get good sleep tonight. Me and Leo are finally on the same sleep schedule for once too, so we should be able to get a lot tomorrow.

Tomorrow, we're going to pick up the Dimetrodon and we'll finally be able to live in there and get our journey started. It's taken a long time to get here, but things are finally going right. After this, we will never need to deal with another Airbnb host or hotel's pet policy again unless we want to. Tomorrow is going to be a wonderful day!

Today was a horrible day. Absolutely everything went wrong. It took forever for the dogs to get to sleep. Just as me, Spider and Monkey were dozing off, Molly was waking up and demanding out, and that woke them up and they they were asking for out and making noise again. I finally got to sleep a little after midnight, then Molly woke me up just before 3:00 demanding out again. I had to wake Leo up cause I couldn't find Molly's gabapentin, which I think is what she was actually asking for. After running the dogs around for another hour or so, they finally got back to sleep. I didn't get back to sleep until 6:30.

Leo woke me up a little after 8 with breakfast. I definitely wanted to sleep more, but I appreciated getting woken up with food, I guess that was one thing that didn't go wrong. I only got about 4 hours of sleep, but we had stuff to do. First order of business was calling the Wisconsin DMV. Leo got through very quickly, was only on hold for 2 minutes. He explained the situation with the Dimetrodon to the agent and she immediately transferred us to a specialist. Things were looking up.

The specialist said there was absolutely nothing we could do. She said Wisconsin couldn't extend the temporary plate under any circumstances; she didn't have anything in her procedure that would let her do it. She said we'd have to take the Dimetrodon to the Nevada DMV, which is a little tricky seeing as how we're currently stuck in Iowa. She denied telling us we had no choice but to abandon it or get a 2,000 mile tow, but that's basically what she told us. Once we pick it up, we should at least be able to get it to an RV park. We can stay there for a bit, tidy up the inside, have time to work out our next move, no need to rush. Leo looked up the Iowa laws, and it looks like ATC (the mechanic) should be able to issue something called an in-transit permit. They look to be designed for exactly our situation.

ATC said they can't issue a permit cause we didn't buy it from them. Also, we can't pick up the Dimetrodon. They fired it up this morning and found it was leaking coolant from the intake; they need to re-seal the coolant lines. It'll be at least another day, maybe more. Oh well, we're trying to make the best of it. We managed to get on board the Dimetrodon, and Leo was able to get his passport that's been stuck there since we left the Dimetrodon here last November. I also got ATC to refund me the $2,000 they overcharged me for the repair without too much trouble.

We've booked ourselves in a fancy Airbnb tonight with a pool table and a hot tub and a giant fenced in yard that the dogs will love. It will be a super-relaxing and much needed break. We have some other stuff to take care of today, but none of it is urgent. It's a minor setback but nothing we can't deal with. Our accommodations tonight are taken care of and we just need to kill a couple hours until we can check in and have a good soak.

We took the dogs to Thornberry Dog Park. It's a huge fenced-in area. Monkey and Spider did so much running around and made a lot of new doggy friends. Molly power-walked around the park, staying on the sidewalk like a senior citizen at the mall. It's been tricky to socialize Monkey, cause he gets so anxious when sees dogs he doesn't know, but today he was a really good boy. For the most part. He did get overstimmed, and he still needs to learn he can't roughhouse with tiny dogs the same way he can with big dogs. He went up and grabbed a tiny dog by the neck, then his owner grabbed him and that made him super-anxious. Leo was able to get over there and break things up, but then his owner started getting on us, saying he shouldn't be there (in the big dog park) if he couldn't deal with tiny dogs. I don't think she got the point that that's why there's a separate tiny dog park.

We stayed there for a bit and experiences were mostly positive. I was hoping to make some calls and maybe research the DMV thing a little more, but Monkey was starting to get overstimmed so we didn't stay. I think he'll get a lot better if we take him to dog parks more regularly. We drove out and Leo showed me around Iowa City a bit, showing me all the poorly designed roads that weren't good for cars or pedestrians, of which there were lots of both. We eventually decided to drive up near Waterloo where our Airbnb was and get some dinner and groceries there. On the way, I was able to make a call to order some base plates for the Jeep that should be here Wednesday. Once those are installed, we'll be able to tow it behind the Dimetrodon. I was also able to call my VA psychiatrist, who apparently can't just send my meds to the nearest VA pharmacy because regulations, and give him the phone number of a Walmart he can send the prescriptions to, so hopefully those will be ready soon.

We stopped at Whiskey Road Tavern & Grill for dinner. I went in and made a to-go order (can't leave the dogs alone), and while I was waiting I was able to have a lovely whiskey flight before they brought us our dinner, all very neatly packaged. That, some boozy cupcakes from New Beginnings bakery, and our beautiful Airbnb and hot tub will make tonight absolute heaven.

3:57 pm: Google Maps tells me that New Beginnings Bakery closes at 4:00. And it's a 20 minute drive away. Going to see what I can find at Hy-Vee instead.

I managed to find a gluten free chocolate cake at Hy-Vee along some chips, some 2-liters, and a very nice bottle of top shelf Jack Daniels (Leo needs a corn-based whiskey because of his wheat allergy). Also, while I was in Hy-Vee, I got a call from my psychiatrist's office that Walmart won't accept his prescription cause he doesn't have an e-scribe account. They suggested I find another pharmacy that will accept an e-mailed prescription with a regular signature, or that I stay somewhere long enough to get my pills mailed to me. I only have a couple Ambien left. It's going to be fun trying to sleep without them, but at least we have a nice place for tonight. It's already after 4:00, so as soon as I'm done shopping, we can go check in whenever we like. Things are looking up.

Also, while I was in Hy-Vee I got messaged by our host and called by Airbnb. Because of all of our recent bad reviews (our most recent host still hasn't given us a review yet, and that's never a good sign), our new hosts didn't want to risk any damage and just canceled our reservation. At 4:16pm. Airbnb said they would give me a full refund (very generous of them to refund the money I paid for a service they decided not to provide), and after I pointed out how much in the lurch that left us, they gave me a coupon for $100 off our next stay (expiring tomorrow) and some suggestions for similar places, like a tiny apartment that also accepted pets and didn't have a yard. I said fuck that, I'm not dealing with you anymore, and booked us at a nearby Hilton. They have a hot tub, so we'll still be able to soak there. And hopefully the dogs will settle down sooner since they already had their exercise.

Checked into the Hilton, the hot tub is broken. I asked the lady at the front desk when it would be fixed; she said they weren't sure, but definitely not tonight. Leo was in a lot of pain after being stuck in the car with the dogs while I was in Hy-Vee. Monkey was apparently barking a lot, and also completely trampled over our dinner. Hopefully some of it is still salvageable. I sent him upstairs and handled getting the dogs and our groceries in myself. It only took about an hour of non-stop in and out with the dogs before they were finally ready to settle down, and things finally got quiet.

The lid of Leo's sup container was smashed into little tiny plastic shards all through his soup in a way that looked like it would have happened whether Monkey had trampled it or not. My salad had croutons on it, even though I'd asked for everything gluten free. My steak was passable, though a little cold by the time I got to it, and I didn't want to put it in the fridge because of cross-contamination concerns. Spider is allergic to beef, which meant I couldn't share with him or any of the other dogs without him feeling left out. This meant I got to eat in the close company of three suddenly extremely hungry and malnourished dogs, trying to cut a very gristly rib-eye with a plastic butter knife. Whiskey Road's menu hadn't left me with a lot of other options that were also gluten free. It was either that or the peach salmon, and Leo's very allergic to stone fruit.

Leo didn't really trust his ahi tuna after the crouton incident, so he left that to me and ate the better part of a cheese sampler I'd gotten from Hy-Vee. We watched some Firefly while I wrote this log entry, which has now taken me the better part of three hours to type out. My laptop—a 3 year old MacBook Pro—decided just last week that it didn't feel like displaying things anymore. The repair shop wanted nearly $700 to fix it, so I decided it would be more economical to buy a new laptop, since I'm about due for an upgrade anyway. I am holding off until after the Dimetrodon's needs are taken care of though, since I don't know how much it will cost.

I was able to find an old monitor for $20 on Facebook marketplace, which works but has extremely washed out color and everything has a sickly bluish tint to it no matter how I adjust it. After all of the work to get the dogs and all of our vitally needed stuff up to our room, I really didn't feel like making another trip for it though, so I've had to type all this out on my phone. I hope it was worth the time I spent on it. Today (and yesterday) seemed like good days to begin our Captain's Log with. Now all the dogs are settling in and going to sleep. Leo has already passed out and I should too or I'll be tired again tomorrow. We originally only booked one night here, but decided after we got here that it's nice enough, and it would be good to have a base of operations to make calls from tomorrow regardless of whether the Dimetrodon's ready or not, so we extended an extra night. I really hope we don't need to stay here too much longer though. I'm going to bed now. Good night.

Today was an uneventful day, which was a welcome change after the chaos of the days before it. Our guy at ATC said they were working on the Dimetrodon and hoped to have the coolant fixed before end of day today, but he never called, so I guess they're still working on it. Leo called Whiskey Road and told them about the issue with our order yesterday. They re-made it at no charge, so we got a nice lunch finally. We have a good work project to do today that Leo put some good time into. I spent some time tweaking my galaxy simulator. Trying to see if I can set the initial conditions to form stable density waves. The Wikipedia on density wave theory is shockingly light on specifics, and I haven't find any other good sources either. The hot tub is still down, but we both got a chance to take a dip in the pool. The dogs have been pretty well behaved and mostly stayed quiet. They seem to like it here. I got woken up early again by Monkey needing to go out and have been running on low sleep all day. Hopefully I will be able to get better sleep tonight. We still need to call the DMV. We can do that tomorrow. I should also be getting the base plate kit for the Jeep so maybe I'll be able to install that and inquire about whatever else I need for a towing setup. Fingers crossed we'll get the Dimetrodon back tomorrow and can get our adventure started.

We are not getting the Dimetrodon back today. You can thank global climate change and/or the liberal weather machine. The fixed the leaks, then noticed the engine had developed a “tick” that they said is due to a bad riser, but they want to contact the manufacturer before trying to fix it cause they don't want to void the warranty. This wouldn't be a problem except the manufacturer is based in Florida and Florida is kind of in the middle what in past times would be called a once-a-decade natural disaster and is now called Thursday. No idea now when they'll actually get through. I did get a base plate kit and had ATC order a tow bar, wiring harness, and supplemental braking system. The base plate looks like it should be straightforward to install on the Jeep; it doesn't require any welding or even drilling any holes, so I should do that myself this evening without any unforeseen complications.

Update 9:03pm: The installation did in fact require some drilling. And it was slightly more complicated by the very annoying plastic rivets holding the plastic front wheel wells to the plastic front bumper. I couldn't remove them without breaking them, so hopefully I can find a good way to securely re-attach them, preferably without requiring one-time use plastic rivets. Fortunately, there is a Fleet Farm store just across the street from the hotel, which in Iowa means a 15 minute walk. I was able to walk over there just before they closed (I had already taken apart the front bumper, so didn't want to have to reverse that to drive) and buy a nice drill and bits. Hopefully I should be able to finish the installation without further complications tomorrow. I still only got 5 hours of sleep last night cause dogs woke me up early asking for out, and then I didn't get back to sleep. Maybe I should just get used to running on 5 hours of sleep.

The good news is that I got 9 hours and 44 minutes of sleep. The bad news is it required sleeping in until after 3pm to do it. I had enough time to finish most of the base plate install. I'm pretty sure it was designed with the assumption that the car would be flipped upside down and installed from above, as it requires bolting a 50lb piece of steel to the underside of the frame, which was quite a pain to keep it in place while I put the first few bolts in. It was also super-fun keeping their bolt plates in place while I stuck them way back into the back of the frame (would've been really fun if I'd dropped one, would never have been able to get it out) with the little wires attached to guide them into place. After I did that, I had to drill a couple new holes in the frame, using a 13/32” drill bit as that's what the instructions specified, even though the video I found of the installation just used a 3/8” bit. I'm glad I sprung for the cobalt drill bits, as it required drilling through ¼” of solid steel and took forever as it was. I would definitely have broken any lesser drill bit. Anyway, all of that is installed. The bolts are properly loctited and torqued, and the whole thing is very solid, so I'm sure it's not going anywhere.

I still need to install the permanent safety cables and re-attach the wheel wells before I can drive it. Both of those should be super-straightforward and I'm running out of daylight, so shouldn't cause any problems to do that tomorrow. We've decided we're going to move to a Staybridge outside Des Moines tomorrow as it's better suited to a long-term stay and it looks like it might be a bit before ATC can get in touch with the Dimetrodon engine's manufacturer. I'll get to bed early tonight and get up early tomorrow so I can finish up the last parts of the base plate install and have plenty of time to get packed and get checked out before I get over to Des Moines. I got a riveting tool and some rivets for the wheel well, which is a good thing to have anyway, so I've got what I need and won't need to go back to Fleet Farm before I drive out tomorrow.

It took me until 2am to get to sleep. Then the dogs woke me up to let them out around 8:00. We have to check out at 11:00, which should be enough time. I was watching a video last night showing how to install the safety cables for this base plate. It didn't make a lot of sense to me last night, but now it seems a little clearer. The passenger side safety cable wasn't too bad. It required feeding it up through the frame behind the headlight and around some soft radiator tubing. I don't know that that's really the best choice for a safety cable, but that's the way they did it in the video. For the driver's side cable, the video said it was super easy and told me to feed it up through a big hole in the frame and around and behind the headlight, but there was no hole I could get it through, so I just wrapped it around a solid crossbar below the radiator, where it isn't going around any cables or hoses and is attached to something very solid. There was a lot of extra slack, but I attached some zip ties to hold it in place.

The video showed them cutting off some triangular tabs on the back of the bumper, cause they were getting in the way with the base plate installed, but it wasn't that hard to slip them behind it. What was a problem was that the bumper needed to mount flush against the crossbar I had wrapped the safety cable around. There were a couple of notches in the bumper though, and I was able to cut off the zip ties and line the cable up with one of those notches. I'm kind of amazed by how flimsy the bumper actually is. It's just a big piece of plastic held up by a couple of plastic tabs. It's back on though. And the grill just snaps into place. That just leaves the tire well rivets to put back on. That'll just be a few minutes. It's getting close to 11:00, but I don't think we have that much left to move out. I called the front desk and told them we'd be another half hour, which should be way more time than we actually need; we'll probably be out by 11:15.

So we finally finished checking out around 12:30. I got all the stuff loaded up by 1:00, then realized the nylon rivets the base plate came with to replace the ones I'd removed were too big for my riveting tool, and the rivets I got were way to small for the big mounting holes in the wheel well. I managed to hand-pull a couple of them, but some of the others absolutely refused to be pulled. I decided it was secure enough that I could make the drive across the street to Fleet Farm, and after looking everywhere for a proper automotive riveting tool, I was ready to give up, when I was walking through the screw section and saw a drawer of automotive plastic rivets, including pushpins that don't need a tool, so I got a bunch of them. Then I got outside with them and discovered that the pins barely pushed out at all. I really didn't feel like standing in line at Fleet Farm again to get something else that might or might not work, and I managed to get enough of the attachment points secured that the wheel wells seem pretty solid, so we finally got on the road.

The drive to Des Moines was pretty uneventful, except for a couple of assholes that seemed to think it was their duty to prevent me from getting over to the exit lane to I-35, which meant I missed the exit and had to loop back a couple times. Also our power inverter kept beeping loudly whenever Leo plugged his laptop into it. We stopped and looked at it and couldn't figure out why, so we just did our best to live with it. We listened to I'm Starting to Worry About this Black Box of Doom, which is a great book that seemed to have been written to describe us. It was a 2 hour drive to Des Moines, so we got there about 5:30. We found out that the Staybridge only allows one pet, but we convinced to bend the rules a little to allow 2. I didn't tell them about Spider because he's a service animal, so I shouldn't have to, and I don't think that will cause any problems. They seemed a bit hesitant to allow 2 dogs, so I thought 3 would be pushing it even if he was a service animal, and I really just wanted to get checked in and not have to go find another hotel. After getting settled in, the rest of the evening was pretty quiet.

Sunday, October 13th

The last few days have been uneventful. This Staybridge is really nice and seems like a great place to spend a week. There's a nice pool and fitness center, free breakfast in the morning, lots of nice common areas we can sit in and read and work, and our room has more space, comfy beds, a nice amount of daylight, good lamps, a good kitchen with plates and silverware and pots and pans, and a nice desk and couch. A long stay here wouldn't be too bad. Hopefully we won't need it, but things won't be too bad if we do.

The dogs were getting antsy this afternoon, so we looked for a dog park and Ankeny Dog Park looked really nice on Google Maps. The dogs got super-excited when they saw where we were going, and then we saw we needed a pass and there was a coded lock on the door. We thought it would be best to not hang out at the entrance with our dogs so eagerly anticipating going in, and one of the other parkgoers was kind enough to let us in. Then everyone got in and Monkey and Spider made some friends, and everything was good.

For about a minute. Then a lady came by with a whole bunch of dogs including a little toy dog. Monkey has a thing about toy dogs that we are really trying to rid him of, where he immediately goes and pins them down and tries to hump them, which he did with this dog. Then the dog's mom started kicking Monkey, which escalated things, but we were able to pull him off after a few seconds. We tried to ask her if her dog was okay, but she immediately went into full Karen mode, demanding to know if we had a pass, saying not to ask how her dog was doing, and then immediately getting on her cell phone to call the cops while demanding we leave, which we were planning to do anyway since Monkey had made it clear he wasn't capable of being there. Even though she was demanding we leave, she kept following us out of the park, never once putting down her cell phone to actually talk to us, and so we just had to quickly get the dogs back into the car and drive off.

That incident was unfortunate. I can understand she was upset about her dog being scared, but we could tell he hadn't been seriously hurt. We'd have happily offered to pay her vet bills if she'd actually talked to us, but she had to Karen out instead, so I guess we won't be dealing with her anymore. I wish we could have handled things more amicably, but it takes two people to do that. Anyway, it's done with and I'm sure there won't be any long-term consequences from that. We got back to the hotel, we've still got a nice place to stay, we're together and healthy, and have a nice stable place for the rest of the week. Housekeeping was able to come in and clean the room while we were out. It is so nice having regular housekeeping to keep your room nice and fresh. Things are still looking up.

Monday, October 14th

So we got kicked out of our hotel. And Monkey needs to be quarantined for 10 days. And we had to move to 2 separate rooms at the REDACTED, which is nowhere near as nice, but was at least a lot cheaper. And Staybridge had the decency to say they'd refund the rest of our stay.

The day started out quietly enough. I woke up super early, took the dogs for a walk, got breakfast, then went back up and actually managed to get back to sleep. We woke up a bit later and did some work. Monkey was barking a lot, and I got a call from the front desk saying people were complaining about the barks, and wanting to check that I hadn't left him in there alone. I confirmed I was in there with him, and we started giving him some attention to quiet him down while I made an emergency dog toy run. All pretty peaceful.

Things started to turn south about 2:30pm when I got a call from the front desk saying they needed me to come downstairs to discuss an issue with my reservation. I thought maybe they wanted to ask about us having three dogs, and I could explain to them that Spider was a service animal and there would be no further problems. I came downstairs to find a cop waiting for me, who was soon joined by an animal control officer. I guess they saw our Jeep parked outside and asked the Hotel about it. They came up to the room to look at Monkey, and explained that the owner of the dog from yesterday had filed a complaint that he had attacked and bitten her dog (he had, but in his soft-bite playful sort of way. He definitely didn't break any skin or do any real damage) and that state law required them to declare him a dangerous animal and he needed to be kept in quarantine for 10 days so they could verify he didn't have rabies, and we couldn't leave Ankeny or have him around any other dogs. After verifying that they weren't planning on killing Monkey not putting him on some kind do lifelong dog offender registry, we made plans to get a second room where we could keep me and Monkey separate from Molly and Spider during his quarantine. They also warned us, that based on their interactions with the dog’s owner—which I didn't get the impression they particularly enjoyed—that we would probably be hearing more from her, probably later after the quarantine was over.

I went back down to the front desk to arrange this, and was told that between not telling them about Spider (it turns out I did have to tell them even though he's a service dog) and finding out that Monkey was a dangerous animal, the hotel manager had decided to ask us to leave. The lady at the front desk was pretty nice about it. I asked and verified that we would be getting a refund and that we weren't being put on any kind of blacklist, and started getting our stuff out to the car. We booked two single rooms through BringFido at the REDACTED, which doesn't look quite as nice, but they allow multiple pets, have kitchens in their rooms, and are a lot cheaper.

As I was loading the last of our stuff into the car, a Suburban White Lady was hanging out at the side entrance watching me and asked me if I was taking off, which I thought was a little odd, but didn't think too much more of it. We got the last of our stuff and Leo and the dogs into the car, I strapped it all down, and it seems that as I was getting into the car and trying to get Molly to let me have the driver's seat, the power to my dashcam got disconnected, which is a shame as what happened next is exactly the sort of thing it would be good to have a working dashcam for.

As we were pulling out, the Suburban White Lady flagged us down and walked in front of the car to keep us from stopping. She said we weren't allowed to leave Ankeny and asked us where we were going. I told her, as politely as I could, that it was none of her fucking business and to please leave us alone. She did not seem inclined to do this and we said we would call the police if we didn't leave, which she just responded to by saying she had friends at the police force and was friends with the owner of the dog Monkey had tried to hump yesterday. We pulled out, and their vehicle pulled out to follow us. We parked elsewhere in the hotel parking lot and called the cops. They parked nearby and stayed their until the cops arrived, then left before they could be questioned by them. We have a statement to the cops about what happened, then we pulled off, not just making the 5 minute drive to our hotel, but taking a more circuitous route to make sure we weren't followed. I really hope we don't have to deal with these people anymore. We could have resolved things amicably, but now they have declared war.

We finally got to the REDACTED, and I have to say, compared to where we were, it's a shithole. My room has one tiny bed on one of those weird raised up rack bed frames that you only see in crappy hotels. The kitchen looks like the one we had in our house when I was 5, which was already out of date then, and had absolutely nothing in terms of plates or silverware or pans or anything else. There is not a single lamp and the overhead lighting is absolutely horrible. They gave us some impressively large rulesheets with a list a mile long of things they could kick us out for. Also, they only do housekeeping once every 2 weeks. It's going to be a long 10 days.

On the plus side, Leo was able to get some little portable LED lamps ordered from Target that seem to be doing their jobs okay. Monkey was initially wondering when we were going to go back home, since we clearly weren't home if Spider and Molly and Leo weren't there, but he's settled down now.

Also, I talked to ATC, and it sounds like the Dimetrodon's engine manufacturer was open today. My mechanic said he was going to call them, then call me and let me know what they said before the end of day today, which he hasn't done, so I guess I'll call him tomorrow. 10 days is definitely enough time for the Dimetrodon to be done, so we can look forward to getting it back when this quarantine is over.

Tuesday, October 15th

Quiet, uneventful, boring day. I can't really do anything except hang out in my room on my computer. I took Monkey out now and then to do his business, but I can't really take him on any long walks to any parks or hiking trails where there might be other dogs, cause he has to stay away from other dogs during his quarantine. We did make a trip out to Wal-Mart this evening and got some much needed supplies delivered to the car, and I brought in all of our various bins of stuff off of the roof, so that's done at least. I still don't see a refund from Staybridge on my card, not even a pending one, so I may have to call them if I don't see it soon, and if that doesn't work, I'll have to put a chargeback on my card. They did very quickly charge a $250 extra cleaning fee. I can't imagine what that could be for, but I really don't feel like arguing with them about it. I talked to my mechanic today, and he said they'd been in touch with the engine maker and sent them the info they'd requested, but hadn't gotten a response. He said he was going to call them to let a fire under them and let me know the result by end of day today, which he didn't do, so I guess I'm calling him again tomorrow. 8 days of quarantine remain. This would be a good time to contact the Iowa DMV to see if they'd be willing to give us temporary plates for the Dimetrodon. If they won't, that will make our return journey a lot more interesting.

The last week has been mind-numbingly dull. Have mostly hung around the room. Monkey has been very needy, which I can understand cause he's missing his friends. Though he seems to decide every time I get out of bed that I need to be taking him out and not doing anything that isn't paying attention to him, so I haven't been able to get any work or much of anything else done, since I only get any peace when I'm laying in bed not doing anything. Though I did finish setting up our WriteFreely instance and put my past logs online. Our mechanic is still waiting to hear back from the engine manufacturer on whether they want them to fix the Dimetrodon't lifter, or if they want to warranty it again. If the Dimetrodon needs another engine replacement, I don't know what we're going to do. May just have to say fuck it and deal with it as it is.
